A wonderful gold tone hinged cuff bracelet made for Louis Feraud couture. I estimate it to date to the 1970s. The cuff is heavy and sits beautifully on the wrist. It is made of hammered gold tone metal with the inscription FERAUD in capital letters around a large round flat cabochon glass stone of bordeaux red colour that is lightly striated and reflects white in certain lights. The inside is also textured and the cuff is opened via a long spring that holds the sides open.
The cuff measures 2" in length and 2 1/2" in width and will fit a medium sized wrist.
Sold in overall excellent condition with a few traces of rubbing on the inside by the spring.

A lovely very wearable collectors piece.

French designer Louis Feraud was born in 1921 and was a talented artist with an eye for bold geometrics which he incorporated into his designs throughout his career.

In the 1950s, Louis Feraud opened his first store, with a collection of laid back, sportswear pieces that paralleled its resort location in Cannes. He gained much success with the clientele of celebrity shoppers visiting for the famous Cannes Film Festival. Particularly, Brigitte Bardot whom was photographed in a modern sundress from the shop, made waves and it was said the shop sold over 500 of them in the few days following.

In the mid 1950’s following this response to his designs, Feraud took his business to Paris and became a couturier. His artistic expression, and colorful eye were notable throughout these designs.

By the mid 1960s, he returned to his love, the art of daily dressing and entered back into the Ready to Wear market. He chose factories in Germany for the ready to wear collection based on their craft and quality, rather than sourcing in the far east as other RTW contemporaries were doing.

It is said that Louis Feraud never sought the stardom as some other French designers. Throughout his career, he was quite collaborative with the design team which he managed and respected. Designers under his team included Jean-Louis Scherer who went on to have his own successful line. He also thought it wise to focus his collection on the wardrobes of classy, mature women, rather than flaunting to younger celebrity looks. This gained him much popularity amongst stars such as Kim Novak, Ingrid Bergman and Joan Collins.

Monsieur Feraud was the recipient of the GoldenThimble award in 1978 and 1984 as well as the French Legion of Honour in 1995.

Feraud’s daughter Kiki took over the design in 1995, and Louis Feraud passed in 1999
